The MINI RX is based on the MINI World Rally Car but with an upgraded engine, lightweight bodywork and other changes to make it competitive for rallycross.

The 1.6 litre turbo engine has been reengineered to produce more than 450 bhp. This, combined with a ten per cent reduction in weight, means the performance of the MINI RX matches the 2.0 litre rallycross cars, while still maintaining the excellent driveability and handling it inherits from the WRC chassis.

The same team of engineers behind the MINI WRC has retained this car’s precise handling and driveability in the MINI RX. It is this that gives the car the competitive edge in close wheel to wheel racing. This was demonstrated when Liam Doran won an XGames gold medal on the car’s debut and took a silver in the following race and by Dave Mirra’s performance on his MINI debut when he described the MINI as incredible after setting the fastest time in practice and second fastest in qualifying.

The MINI WRC ( World Rally Car) and RRC (Regional Rally Car) are both based on the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman, but re-engineered to FIA regulations to compete in international rally series including the World Rally Championship.

The bodyshell features a Prodrive-designed roll-cage which exceeds FIA regulations and features a unique side impact protection system, while the aero has been optimised using CFD.  The MINI WRC has a 1.6 litre turbo-charged engine, which under FIA regulations is based on the base BMW cylinder head and block, but then completely re-engineered and the performance optimised for rallying.  In the World Rally Championship it runs with a 33 mm air restrictor (3O mm in  RRC specification).

The car is available in gravel or tarmac specification with many common parts to minimise costs.  There is also a kit which allows the car to be easily converted to RRC regulations.

SCRC SPECIFICATION

The VW Golf SCRC has been designed to compete in championships that run open class type regulations for two litre turbocharged cars with four wheel drive.

The car is based on the latest VW Golf mk VII and has been built to the spirit of the World Rally Car regulations, with many of the proven systems and components, including the Xtrac gearbox and differentials and AP Racing brakes, as well as a roll cage and safety features that encompass the latest FIA standards.

Initially the car has been built to the Chinese Rally Championship regulations, but it can readily be modified to suit almost any suitable open class type championship in the world.  It's base two litre engine is also already used successfully in rallycross and the car could be re-engineered to FIA World Rallycross regulations and for the GRC, as is the case for the MINI RX.

The car’s aero, and in particular the composite rear wing, were all developed in-house.  The bodywork is predominantly the standard steel panels from a five door Golf, but with specially developed flexible carbon composite front and rear bumpers and wings.  These impact resistant panels are far more durable and help maintain the aerodynamic performance at the front.

The Golf SCRC has Macpherson strut suspension front and rear with Prodrive-Ohlins dampers and hydraulic compression stops.  Many of the suspension components, including the anti-roll bars and uprights, are interchangeable front to rear to minimise the number of spares.  The car also has an AP Racing WRC brake package.
